What I Wore To Work: 2015 Soul Train Awards Red Carpet

About what I wore and worked the carpet in at the Soul Train Awards…. Hands down I love this look that I pulled together.  If the dress looks familiar- it should. It’s the exact same dress I wore to NY Emmy reception a few months ago, remixed and revamped. I didn’t win the Emmy (my 4th nomination) but you couldn’t tell me I wasn’t winning in this dress. I knew I had to show up and out in it again and THE SOUL TRAIN AWARDS were it.

I knew this dress would be perfect for the Soul Train Awards.  So what I wore it before.  Surely, if my First Lady can repeat pieces from her wardrobe so can I.  I even wore the same shoes which are surprisingly comfy (I wore them all night) and compliment the gold hardware on the dress ridiculously well.  And Yes, the pockets on my dress do work- another reason why this dress was perfect for working the red carpet at the Soul Train Awards.  All my essentials – lipstick, mints and blotting paper – were nice and close where I needed them.

I wore a long dress for last year‘s Soul Train Awards  so I knew I wanted to do something different this year with a short dress.  I figure the award show would be the perfect time to give this body hugging number another spin.  I went with a vampy look to give the sophisticated style some edge and also to mix it up from the first time I wore it.  Ironically, I tried a vampy look last year at the Soul Train Awards  (Im sensing a trend here) so I knew I had to go darker with the lips and make my hair curly to distinguish between the two.  The makeup artist I was suppose to have was a no show so I pulled this look together by myself along with some help via FaceTime with my good MUA girlfriend. I do my own makeup everyday but there is something about red carpet gigs and special events that require a little more than my skill set. However, I’m pretty damn proud of myself for getting this look done.  Now if only I knew how to do lashes, I’d be lethal.

Pile on Lydell NYC jewels from a recent collaboration and VOILA.
Dare I say I loved this look even more the second time around.  Who cares if I wore the dress, before? I looked Hot, if I may say so myself. Plus none of the same people saw me and if they did, so what, who gon check me boo ;-p.

What do you think about my red carpet style? Are you a repeat offender with your wardrobe pieces? Will you be tuned into the Soul Train Awards?
